A Book About Cruising the Western Mediterranean from Barcelona in 2008

Over Thanksgiving break in 2008, Julie and I pulled Amy out of her senior year in high school for a few extra days to take advantage of a great deal on a Western Mediterranean cruise.

Looking back at vacation years later reminds me as much about who we were then as the places we visited.

To parrot a phrase used by Cunard, each cruise is a suspension in time.

Someone once told me that Bridge remains a fascinating game because even if somehow all the cards were dealt exactly the same, you would be playing with different people, and you too would have changed.

The same is true with travel.  The world situation changes.  We change day to day, not to mention over the years.  Our mood of the moment also influences what we take in from our experiences.

And, of course, stuff happens.  The unexpected often surprises us to become the most memorable part.
