More Montana Photos: April 2007

At the top of Pioneer, the main run to the Warren Miller Lodge at the base and a point where several chairlifts and ski runs converge, you can see how crowded this mountain is on Easter weekend with an 80 inch base and bright, sunny weather.

We never went down Namaste, but my wife's Aunt Myrtle always closes her e-mails with that word, so I know it means the god in me recognizes the god in you. From this point, there are some difficult black diamond runs and a beautiful intermediate run called Middle Ching, which was one of our favorites.

T
he Timberline Lodge at the top of Pioneer serves fantastic lunches with gorgeous views below, although we didn't dine here on this trip. It also serves as a comfortable warming hut with complimentary apple cider, coffee, cocoa, water, trail mix and more. The moose head above the fireplace of the rustic log cabin-style restaurant may represent the realization that while nature should be respected and honored, man is not subservient to it.

My son Jay always calls this the best place in the world to vacation, and often he doesn't modify that with the words "to vacation."

A breathtaking view from the top of the mountain.

Y
ou can see how the careful grooming maintains great ski conditions even when the surrounding mountains have embraced spring. It sure is crowded on this run, isn't it?
