Big Changes on the Mexican Riviera

Before I get to Zihuatenejo/Ixtapa, which was my favorite port on our recent ten night Mexican Riviera cruise aboard Radiance of the Seas, I feel obliged to share some recent developments for 2011.

This summer through next January, Royal Caribbean Mariner of the Seas will be cruising the Mexican Riviera from Los Angeles. This magnificent ship features a rock climbing wall, ice skating rink and amazing cafe-lined atrium resembling a Parisian street. Don't let this chance to enjoy this amazing ship from Southern California pass you by, because she will soon be re-locating.

Royal Caribbean announced they will pull Mariner of the Seas off the traditional seven night Mexican Riviera cruises from Los Angeles in January, 2011. On January 16, Mariner of the Seas will reposition from Los Angeles to Valparaiso, Chile, on a 16-night voyage. From there, she takes a 14-night voyage around the Horn to Sao Paolo, Brazil, where she will have a short Brazilian season before heading on a transatlantic voyage to Europe. Mariner will summer on the Mediterranean, bringing Royal Caribbean's presence in Europe to a record breaking eleven ships. After a transatlantic return to North America in November, Mariner will begincruis ing the Western Caribbean from Galveston, with Voyager of the Seas moving to a new winter home port in New Orleans.

One of Carnival's nicest new ships, Splendor, will continue year-round cruising from Long Beach to the Mexican Riviera, while Paradise will continue to pound out three and four night Baja cruises, but Carnival Spirit will be changing gears when she returns from summer in Alaska via a couple of great Hawaiian repositioning cruises to San Diego . She'll warm up for the season with some shorter cruises to Cabo and Ensenada, and then take a few more of that great itinerary to Acapulco, Zihuatenejo and Manzanillo for which she has become known the last few winters. However, if you want those ports, you better act fast, because there are only a handful of those sail dates in October and November before Spirit begins alternating between five night Cabo cruises and nine night cruises to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and La Paz. Because everyone loves Cabo, these new voyages will all feature overnights there. If you like any of these voyages, vote with a down payment today.
