When the elementary school attended by my youngest daughter Amy planned a school trip to Colonial Williamsburg over spring break, we quickly calculated that for the same price as her four day trip, Julie and I could fly to the east coast with Amy and our son Jay to tour the area on our own. As long as we were in the vicinity, we swept through Boston, Philadelphia, Gettysburg and other famous sites before boarding a cruise on the old Pacific Princess from New York. Okay, it ended up costing a little more, but it was a great trip.
Colonial Williamsburg gives tourists the opportunity to see how life used to be and, hopefully, appreciate the advances technology has made possible for those of us living in the 21st Century.
