Oh, Deer!

We frequently hike the Haverford Reserve Trails, a short distance from our Ardmore home.

The quieter Southbrook Trail, where birds singing in trees provide a nice soundtrack for a hike, has been the one we've taken most often.  On Wednesday, we heard a rustling in the woods nearby.  We stopped to look around, hopefully not spook whatever was there.  A large deer scampered off, showing us its rear.

Neither Julie nor I had phone cameras ready, but we were happy to have encountered wildlife.  Usually, it is on a much smaller scale, like a chipmunk or bunny, although we have seen deer and perhaps a fox on other occasions on the Southbrook Trail.

The next day, we returned to hike the Northbrook Trail, which is also very lovely and has more birds, but also is close to freeway noise that competes with natural sounds.

This time, we were stopped in our tracks by a deer directly in the trail ahead of us.  The young deer stared at us with as much interest as we stared at it and was in no hurry to move.  While in our face-off, we heard more deer on both sides of the trail, and caught glimpses of those, too.

I had just finished posting a blog about Celebrating Spring in Pennsylvania, so I decided to add this short post with photos of the deer.

In addition, I realized after that post that I should have mentioned a few of our less formal rites of spring, such as going over to visit with Emma in the afternoons after school and Gina taking the Norristown High Speed Rail to stop in for unwinding with wine after work on Friday evenings.

I won't go into detail, but here are some BeReal photos that capture candid moments.

Sorry, Julie, that's how BeReal saves the photos

Much better selfie photo than Wes's usual.
