Family Returns to Big Sky in Spring, 2023

We love spending time with our family wherever we are.

This year, my sister Darlene's family decided to wait until the end of February to return to Big Sky.

Soon thereafter, Amy and her new husband Lukas flew out from Jersey City, joined by our son Jay and his dog JoJo from Santa Monica.  Jay's wife Sasha was at a knitting retreat with her mom, while Gina, Laszlo and Emma were busy with school in Philly, so we didn't have a full house, but it sure was fun.

We were blessed with different ski conditions every day, with a sunny blue sky day one day, fresh powder on another, deep powder on a third day, and so on.

Of course, it's not just being on the slopes.

We love gathering après-ski by the fire ring and at the beautiful home of Darlene, Brooks and BG3 in the private Yellowstone Club.

Darlene and Brooks went out of their way to make it possible for the rest of us to get the most skiing from our time by watching JoJo, who got along great with his "cousin" little dogs Rizzo and Teddy.

Evenings back home we would play Bridge or Cribbage and watch old King of the Hill episodes, season two of Clarkson's Farm or other TV shows.

We went to our favorite watering hole, Tips Up, a couple of times.

We all love skiing and walking around beautiful Big Sky, as long as it is at least a few degrees above zero.

Fortunately, while the kids were in town, temperatures weren't cold enough to get frostbite shushing down the slopes.  Spring bluebird days can feel downright warm in the 20's.

All too soon, it was time for the kids to fly home again.  Their visit definitely warmed our hearts.

Right after the kids flew home, Julie and I were backing out of our driveway when we noticed a huge animal laying in the snow at the end of our cul-de-sac.  It was a moose!

Darlene, Brooks and BG3 remained at the YC, so Julie and I enjoyed many more days visiting with them, both skiing and dining with them for delicious meals prepared by Darlene.

BG3, an expert skier, surfer and skateboarder, has been learning to snow board.  For him, that doesn't mean going down a beginner slope but rather racing down black diamond runs, often cutting off the trail between trees. He does radical cutbacks like a surfer in a competition trying to get the most points out of the ride for style.

On skis, BG3 has innovated a new style without poles, using body movement developed on his skateboard somehow to go uphill during transitions between trails, when most of us are forced to use poles.

Julie and I had a lot of time on our own in Big Sky and doing other fun favorite activities, as I wrote about previously.  I've included more photos below, though obviously not as many of family as we should have taken. Some are camera shy.
