We didn't plan to have a big celebration this New Year's Eve. At about four o'clock yesterday, I had just started playing "Horse With No Name" on my guitar when I heard Julie calling out from the next room.
Without unstrapping my guitar, I walked out of our bedroom to see what the commotion was about.
A little moose was eating plants right outside of our window. Julie had heard horns honking and looked outside to find out why. At first, she wasn't sure if it was a moose or a bear, because she could only see a dark, hairy rump pressed close to the window.
It seemed the main reason for honks was further down the street, so we figured that perhaps mama moose was in the road.
Sure enough, a few minutes later, here comes mama moose sauntering up the sidewalk looking for her baby, who soon ran off.
The bigger moose started eating an Aspen tree, and then baby came to join her.
We love encounters with nature in Big Sky. It's always a delight when a moose comes to visit us in our condo complex.
After they wandered away, Julie and I walked over to Tips Up, where we were pleasantly surprised to learn that their happy hour prices applied even on New Year's Eve.
Julie ordered a glass of wine and I had a local IPA, and upon reading their new menu, ordered a Rodeo Burger, which has three Montana beef burgers and bacon with barbecue sauce on a bun with a big basket of French fries on the side, so basically all the nutrition we could possibly need.
We split one order, which proved to be a very good decision, because it was exactly the right amount for both of us.
After walking home, I ate a German chocolate cookie from the box my sister gave me when we visited San Diego for Christmas.
We watched the New Year arrive in New York City and Nashville on TV before turning in, very pleased with the last day of the 2022.
By the way, where did the 1990s go?
Happy Moose Year!
