Is Diamond Princess Turning Japanese?

Built in Nagasaki, Japan, by Mitsubishi, you might say Diamond Princess was Japanese when I boarded her inaugural cruise in Los Angeles ten years ago, but she's more so now.

Re-imagined and upgraded as the first premium cruise ship seasonally focused on Japan, Diamond Princess has taken greater glory in re-discovering her heritage.

Make no mistake; she remains a modern cruise ship that will appeal to Westerners, but just as Japan has adapted and mastered many of the best features of Western Civilization, Diamond Princess now fits the Japanese market like a comfy kimono.

While many cruise lines, including river cruises, visit China and Southeast Asia, Diamond Princess is the first to key on Japan for a full season from May to August.

Each year brings modified itineraries, but this video offers a panoramic glimpse of the region, which is rated one of the Top 10 Travel Destinations in the World.

And, not unlike USA-based cruises, each Japan sojourn features at least one foreign port, either in South Korea, Russia or Taiwan, adding to the voyage's exotic mystique.

Are you ready for something completely different?

I'd love to help you get there.

Better service leads to better trips.
