Keep Yourself Alive!

As my youngest daughter pushes through her third year at UConn, after which she'll graduate a year early, I hear myself cheering her on to run all the way through the finish line, although I know her own inner drive pushes her to do that already.

That follow through, without doubt, is important.  To paraphrase what Brian Tracy said in one of his motivational sessions, the horse that wins the Kentucky Derby by a nose may earn ten times the reward and be the only one anyone remembers, but he wasn't ten times as good as even the worst horse in the race.  He was only better by a critical inch. Even the fastest thoroughbred, however, doesn't run constantly, never taking time to enjoy the pleasures of a green pasture between races.

While many people start careers with dreams of seeing the world, some eventually evolve to seeing travel as only a necessity for getting somewhere on the job. We should always recognize travel as arriving someplace wonderful.

Perhaps it's time for you to take a dream vacation to celebrate a landmark occasion like an anniversary, retirement or your youngest child graduating.  Or maybe you simply have vacation days and savings that you haven't allowed yourself to enjoy.   As my friend Mike likes to say, it will do no good to have an armored truck following your hearse.

Where have you always dreamed of going?  If you've arrived at a point in your life where you can savor that dream, why not go now?

Going on a great cruise gives you the chance to remember why you do the things you do, and the voyage gives you perspective that leads you to be better at those tasks when you return to them.  Better service leads to better trips!
