I need to interrupt my flashback to France with some late breaking news that's really exciting.
For the optimist, every crisis comes with an opportunity. Cruise lines have responded to concerns about Swine Flu in Mexico by cancelling all ports of call in Mexico for a short time, substituting alternative ports. Obviously, this changes Mexican Riviera cruises considerably. It is a tremendous opportunity for all of you who have said you wished there was some new itinerary roundtrip from Los Angeles. For example, check out these trips on Mariner of the Seas, the magnificent ship Royal Caribbean recently brought to make Los Angeles her home port. There will be new Pacific Coast itineraries available from now until summer. The May 3, May 24, May 31, June 7, and June 14, 2009 Mexican Riviera sailings have been changed to 7-Night Pacific Coastal sailings roundtrip from Los Angeles, California. The new ports of call will be San Francisco, California; Victoria, British Columbia; and Seattle, Washington. Carnival Splendor will have a similar itinerary on May 3, with the future undetermined.
On May 10, the new ports of call for Mariner of the Seas will be Astoria, Oregon; Victoria, British Columbia; and Seattle, Washington. I have to say I'm kind of surprised that these ships can make it up to Canada and back, managing to call on two other ports along the way.
The three and four night cruises on Carnival Paradise and Elation will each visit the great port of Catalina instead of Ensenada for the next week or so, and we'll see after that.Make no mistake about this: I am really excited to be able to offer you these fantastic itineraries. These are all great ports with much to see and do there. I'm hoping some of you can find time in your busy schedules to take advantage of these last minute itineraries, because a strong response might just convince the cruise lines that there is a market for at trip like this.
