Princess Cays: August 2006

In my last post, I said that Mr. Busby’s Beach Bar on St. Martin delivered exactly what the Caribbean is supposed to be, but when we arrived at Princess Cays, we found another version of paradise. Here, the barbecue is prepared by the ship staff and included at no additional charge, and the food is delicious.

Wade into the warm, clear water for decent snorkeling or just a refreshing dip, then head back to the beach to take in the view. We blew up some cheap air mattresses, and the girls spent some time floating around on them. Snorkel a little, float a little, eat a little, drink a little, snorkel some more….

Somehow, the day slipped away, but when we went over to catch the tender back to the ship, we found a long, long line of returning passengers. That can be a downside of a large ship like Caribbean Princess, which carries over 3,000 passengers, but we soon realized that instead of standing in that line or sitting in uncomfortable wooden benches, we could go to a stretch of beach and settle in again. We found lounge chairs in the shade of a palapa and soaked in some more of the atmosphere. After all, the ship certainly won’t sail away from its own private island without boarding the rest of the people waiting to head back. Eventually, the line shortened to a point where we essentially walked onto the tender and motored back to the ship.

This was the last day of our cruise, and the private island experience let us totally unwind. When you go, don’t try to make it something that it isn’t. Just relax and enjoy the day at a great beach.

Are you ready to unwind in paradise?
