Leaving Ka'anapali Beach: February, 2001

Awaking early the next morning for our last day in Maui, Rollie, Cheryl, Jacque, Julie and I went snorkeling at Black Rock one last time. Everyone else slept in and then went to the beach by our hotel.

After enjoying our last morning on Ka’anapali Beach, we went back to the condo, packed up and checked out. We dropped off our snorkel rentals at Boss Frogs, then we took a few last pictures of Lahaina.

From there we drove to the Iao Valley, where we had lunch by the Japanese Pagoda. We hiked a ways to get a better view of the Iao Needle. Our visit to Iao Valley was pleasant, but we rushed off to complete the drive to Hana and back by nightfall, because Cheryl, Rollie and Jered had missed our first trip..

The first 12 miles or so were beautiful, but when we stopped at an amazing harbor, whining children won the day, forcing us to turn back two of the cars. Jacque drove one car, and I reluctantly drove the second car back toward civilization.

My nephew Jered’s stomach really didn’t like the winding roads, and before we had backtracked very far, he upchucked all over my rental car. I cleaned it up with towels, and later we found a store where I bought some deodorizing cleaners to finish the job.

Rollie, who thoroughly enjoys every opportunity to see something new, had missed our previous trip to Hana a few days earlier because of his son’s illness, so Julie took him to the amazing black sand beach and then on to Hana.
